The Author’s Own Words

What the author of “90 Seconds” and “Angels in Orange” has said about how he writes, with the original recordings.

In short: The author of the ArtScroll books “90 Seconds” and “Angels in Orange” has said in interviews that he tells the stories accurately and does not embellish. Below are his exact words, with links to the original recordings, next to records that differ from what the books say.

What the author said

90 Seconds: Behind the Bima (Boca Raton Synagogue podcast), episode “Special Guests - Rabbi Nachman Seltzer & Eli Beer”

Mar 22, 2023 · at 23:48 to 24:01

The host asks: “Rabbi Seltzer, is the goal when you’re writing the book to accurately tell the story of what was or to try to inspire people for what can be?”

I write the story accurately, and I don’t embellish… There’s no embellishment. I just told the story. I went through the whole book with Eli after I wrote it. I kept to what he said exactly.
— Nachman Seltzer, author

Time is in the episode audio as the publisher served it on Oct 24, 2026.

Asked how the book was written so quickly.

So three weeks after the war started, I started writing the book. I wrote it in a month.

Talking about novels and his true-story books.

This is a book that’s like a novel, but it’s… real. So it’s… true.
— Nachman Seltzer, author

“…” marks repeated words the two checks heard differently.

Asked whether he ever embellishes.

I don’t call it embellishment. I call it adding color. I give you the color of the scene. I’m not embellishing. That’s what happened.

Differs from the record

These findings compare what the books or their promotion say with other records. They describe the records only, not anyone’s intent.

The book’s account of the 1978 bus bombing

Book: 90 Seconds

What was said: 90 Seconds says “a terrorist blew himself up inside the crowded bus, killing, wounding, and maiming dozens of innocent people.”

Differs from the record: A news report from that week counts six dead and 19 injured from a terrorist bomb, and says police made arrests.

His own story: six years old, or five?

Book: 90 Seconds

What was said: On a 2025 podcast he says: “I was in a bomb attack when I was six years old.”

Differs from the record: His own organization’s page and his authorized biography both say he was five when he saw the 1978 bus bombing.

Book trailer: who went in to get the twin babies?

Book: Angels in Orange

What was said: ArtScroll’s video ad has Beer saying “our volunteers together as the Golani soldiers went in and got these babies.”

Differs from the record: The group’s own medics said soldiers carried the babies out to them at the gate. The soldiers’ commander said the same.

How we checked

We listened to each recording on the publisher’s own page. Each quote was written down two separate ways (two computer transcriptions of the same audio, or YouTube’s captions plus our own transcription), and kept only where both matched. Clips are linked, not copied here.
